What is it about?
Mental disorders are frequent conditions in both pre- and post-bariatric surgery period. We determined current and lifetime rate of mental disorders in accordance with structured interview SCID-I. Most class III pre-surgical obese patients (n=393) meet diagnostic criteria for mental disorders (57,8% current prevalence and 80.9% lifetime prevalence).

Why is it important?
Reliable assessment of psychopathology in pre-surgical period is important for early referral to treatment, stabilization before surgical intervention, and to avoid post-surgical worsening. The SCID-I is a standardized gold-standard clinical interview to determine the presence of mental disorders.
