Comparison of emerging contaminants in receiving waters downstream of a conventional wastewater treatment plant and a forest-water reuse system

What is it about?

Contaminants such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and agricultural chemicals end up in surface water from incomplete removal during the wastewater treatment process. This article investigated contaminants in surface waters downstream of two different types of wastewater treatment plants: a conventional treatment plant and an alternative treatment plant. The alternative treatment plant is a forest-water reuse system, where treated wastewater is land-applied to a forested system.
