What is it about?
The mechanochemical treatment of the MgO-SiO2 composition leads to an increase of its activity and selectivity in the heterogeneous catalytic conversion of ethanol into 1,3-butadiene. This results from the formation of active reaction sites for aldol–crotonic condensation on the surface, which are Lewis acidic sites.
