What is it about?

I consider an alternative draft-pick allocation rule, designed to mitigate 'tanking' in pro-sports. Then, I put it to the empirical test, finding that the rule would work better than the current rule in this respect. There are also numerous other appealing aspects of the rule.

Why is it important?

Tanking has been a long-standing problem in pro-sports leagues with reverse-order player drafts. It is a problem to which senior sports administrators should be trying to solve with innovative (and easy to implement) policy alternatives to the status quo. This paper presents one such alternative, which is shown to work (even though it has never been trialed).

Perspectives

This is a very rare example of a robust test in economics of a policy that has never existed. Several sports leagues have been made aware of this work, and hopefully it will be given due consideration if future.
