What is it about?

Astaloy CrL was milled for various times with addition of SiC or Si + C, then the compacts were sintered. Calorimetric tests and phase identification were carried out and compared with thermodynamic calculations. Various carbides were obtained.

Why is it important?

Results showed that under presence of Fe and elevated temperature the SiC is decomposed into elemental Si and C.
