What is it about?
This is a study about the characterization of the diversity of the fecal bacterial microbiota and shorth chain fatty acid production in school children 9–11 years old that suffer from obesity and how it is different from children of normal weight. We identified changes in the fecal short-chain fatty acids profile and bacteria associated with the overweight and obesity stages described in the research sample.

Why is it important?
Mexico is a country where according to UNICEF (https://www.unicef.org/mexico/salud-y-nutrición) approximately 1 out of 3 children between 6 to 19 years old suffer from overweight and obesity. It is very important to understand all the factors leading to this epidemic malady.
