What is it about?

The article represent an insight into the circulation of WNV in Slovakia. WNV lineage 1 and 2 was detected in swab or brain of paserine birds as well as in raptors with higher prevalence in the latter group. In one raptor TBEV was detected. Why is it important?

These infinformations are imoprtant as WNV is still a zoonotic pathogen which cause epidemics in humans in several countries. Althogh human cases had not been noted in Slovakia so far, from epidemiological point of view is valuable information, that the virus is circulating in the main reservoirs in Slovakia.

Perspectives

In our department a project aimed on the monitoring of WNV in birds, horses and humans is running.
