What is it about?
Wood density is a key plant trait. Estimating wood densities for whole forest stands remains difficult. Our study shows that a random sampling of 30-50 trees is adequate for forest-level wood density estimates.

Why is it important?
Wood density is a key trait that helps with the estimation of forest biomass and carbon storage. Being able to have an accurate estimate of forest level wood density is therefore important for understanding carbon budgets of forests.
