What is it about?

Hearing loss associated with different syndromes [ problems in other systems] is not very common. However this should be recognized as this may affect the final results or complicate the surgery. Some of these syndromes are clear and easily idfentified while others need to be looked for and properly investigated.

Why is it important?

Our work highlights the incidence of hearing loss with some syndromes and the difficulties which can occur. We also give our experience in handling these problems.

Perspectives

The incidence of syndromes is different in each community and all surgeons should have a high index of suspicion in each case. A multidisciplinary team should always be at hand for each cochlear implant case and standardized protocols established for the proper care of those special individuals.
