What is it about?
We studied the length of the premature closure (synostosis) of the sagittal suture of the skull in 33 children. All children had undergone skull corrective surgery before the age of 2 years. The children with total premature closure of the sagittal suture were older than the children with partial suture closure. Although the increase in the length of the synostosis may lead to more deformed skull, the volume of the skull increased with age. One year after the corrective surgery there were no differences in the skull volumes between the children who had had partial or total synostosis.

Why is it important?
The length of the premature closure of sagittal suture increases with age. One year after corrective surgery of the skull, the skull volumes of the all operated children were similar.
