What is it about?
This is a review on a broad class of porous materials, called zeolites, important for earth sciences, chemistry, industry and technology. Our review discusses the behaviour of these minerals under very high pressures.

Why is it important?
Zeolites are part of our everyday life. We find them in laundry detergents and fertilizers, cat littery and solar-energy devices. Almost all the world’s gasoline is produced using zeolites. Studying these porous materials under high pressures is important for improving many of their commercial applications and industrial processes. It is also essential for understanding their geological origin. Here, we summarized the knowledge gained from previous studies, and presented our views, which take into account both the geological and the industrial relevance of these materials.
