Our article investigates whether immigrants are more likely to come from larger families, namely if they have more siblings, and if other demographic characteristics also play a role.

Why is it important?
This is important to assess the potential effect of reducing fertility on migration. We demonstrate that the number of siblings does not significantly affect the probability to emigrate from Mexico to the USA. Conversely, birth order and gender composition matter, namely first sons are more likely to migrate and daughters are less likely to leave if they have older brothers.
