Why is it important?

The groundwater potential in Madras (Chennai) is deteriorating. At the same time, anthropogenic influence on the environment has tremendously increased due to population growth, industrial discharges and poor environmental management. Thus, it became essential to assess the quality of the groundwater for domestic consumption. Such work is also crucial for raising awareness among the public on the impending catastrophe.

Perspectives

This is one of the decisive research aimed at assessing the levels of toxic trace elements in the groundwater of Madras (Chennai) in a large area of around 270 sq.km.
