What is it about?

An overview of theoretical approaches about the relation between tourism, territories and sustainable development: tourism is presented as a place and knowledge based activity with strong economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts on territories, potentially prompting innovation and assuming a central role within smart specialization strategies. Problems limitations and current challenges are critically discussed. These conceptual analyses are supported by empirical studies undertaken by the author.
