What is it about?
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is an agency of the US federal government. Its purpose is to protect the environment and human health. It carried out this duty by writing and enforcing regulations that are based on laws passed by Congress. There are many aspects to the EPA. Therefore, this chapter provides a general description of the agency and discusses its regulations, especially for heavy metal contaminants in the water, air, and soil.

Why is it important?
In the environmental regulations of the US, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has played a key role so far. In this chapter, we mentioned some regulations such as Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Heavy Metals and EPA Regulatory, Heavy Metals Limits etc. and described the development of regulations in the US.
