Why is it important?

Nations become world leaders, in part, through the hard work of their experts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Countries need enough qualified STEM graduates to meet their economic needs and to compete globally, especially since the workforce is becoming more technology driven. Therefore, it is important to introduce young children to the topics of STEM and to motivate as well as encourage them to pursue STEM subjects in every grade. These essential tasks are the responsibility of the K-12 (kindergarten through twelfth grade) educators. (excerpts from the book chapter.)
