What is it about?

Drawing on the insights provided in previous chapters as well as on the perspectives of older spouse carers, this chapter will explore their perceptions and experiences of external sources of support. In view of the increasingly significant role of informal sources in providing this support, the chapter will begin with an overview of help from kin and non-kin. This will be followed by a consideration of access to formal help including hospitals, care homes, home based provision and support groups. There will also be a discussion of the multiple factors that can impact upon this access.
