The Management Strategies of Older Spouse Carers

What is it about?

Having explored the experience of caring and the influence of context and resources on this experience, in preceding chapters, this chapter will examine the way in which the caring role is actively managed by older spouse carers. As such, it will be shown how the lives of respondents were significantly transformed as a result of their caring role and the subsequent management strategies adopted. The first part of the chapter will focus on the adaptations and transitions experienced by older spouse carers and this will be followed by an exploration of the culture of coping that they commonly exhibit.
