What is it about?
The focus of this article is the digital accessibility of intelligent environments for people with disabilities and older people. The article begins by discussing the characteristics of intelligent environments and continues by exploring how the different interaction modalities challenge accessibility. For each interaction modality, it carries out a review of its accessibility for different categories of disabilities as well as for older adults. Finally, the article concludes by exploring how intelligent environments can be designed to be accessible for all.

Why is it important?
We provide an analysis of the different interaction techniques that can be encountered in intelligent environments (e.g. voice-based interaction, touch, eye gaze, etc.) and highlight the accessibility challenges and opportunities entailed for different user categories. The summative table can be used to guide the design of intelligent environment to be digitally accessible.
