What is it about?
This book is about the fact that people use smartphones not only in ways that negatively impact on face-to-face conversation, but also to add new types of discourse and facilitate different patterns of interaction. For instance, showing photos and videos adds immediate authenticity to conversations, and people often utilise "exomemory" in order to search for things online during talk.

Why is it important?
This is an easily observable phenomena but very few studies have looked at the qualitative impact of phones on face-to-face communication, and much emphasis is placed on the negative impact of smartphones.
