What is it about?
The observation that a specific inhibitor for eukaryotic DNA polymerase(aphidicolin) inhibits DNA replication in an archaebacgterium lead us to isolate DNA polymerase from this bacterium. In fact we found that the isolated polymerase possesses similar traits to those of eukaryotic polymerase alpha.

Why is it important?
For the first time, a DNA polymerase was isolated and purified from an archaebacterium, followed by its characterization demonstrating its similarity to that of eukaryotic origin.
