What is it about?
Opioids are commonly used as analgesics; however, like any medicine, they can produce adverse drug reactions (ADRs), including nausea, constipation, dependence, and respiratory depression, that result in harmful and fatal events . The study focused on adverse drug reactions to opioids related on abuse, misuse, medication errors, and differences between sexes.

Why is it important?
The consumption level of opioids is increasing even outside the prescription regimen. For that reason, it is essential to improve the evidence focused on problems of use, misuse or abuse to increase safety patterns of opioids.
Perspectives
The strategies to improve the safety of medicines have evolved over the last decades and pharmacovigilance plays an important role in the assessment and evaluation of the safety profile of drugs. Opioids is one of the groups related with this perocupation.
