What is it about?

Effective and precise neural modulation with real-time detection in the brain is of great importance and represents a significant challenge. In this study, we developed a nanoliposome-based delivery system for ruthenium-based caged GABA compounds (Nanolipo-Ru) to modulate neural activity and allow for real-time monitoring using the microelectrode arrays (MEAs), which can develop new strategies for neural modulation.

Why is it important?

We proposed a novel and promising strategy to modulate neural signals using liposomal encapsulation of RuBi-GABA (Nanolipo-Ru) with real-time recording of electrophysiological activity in the rat. This platform allowed for spatiotemporal control that could provide for rapid control and extended duration of efficacy, with the added benefit of real-time monitoring.

Perspectives

I hope this work could attract more researchers to further study the application of nanomedicine in neuroscience. It is believed that the effects of nanomedicine can bring more possibilities for the future of precise neural modulation.
