What is it about?

Ultrasound-sensitive systems are widely applied for external stimulation-responsive drug delivery as well as for ultrasonography in the diagnosis of various diseases. This was the first time the hydrophobic phase-transitional imaging agent was encapsulated into the vesicular lumen to achieve highly efficient tumor site-specific release and tissue-penetrating delivery of anticancer drug in vivo.

Why is it important?

We propose an unusual approach to preparation of US-sensitive nanospheres possessing multiple distinct features including nanoscale dimensions, a narrow size distribution, and incorporation of a hydrophobic phase-transitional imaging agent into the aqueous lumen, which are crucial for US-assisted drug delivery to solid tumors.

Perspectives

The external stimulation-responsive drug delivery system show great advantages in cancer therapy, such as increase the controllability of drug release as well as decrease the adverse effects. I do hope this article can bring some inspirations to the readers in designing the external-sensitive carriers for drug delivery.
