What is it about?

Turn taking is introduced in classroom conversations in primary schools, starting from 8 years of age, when turn taking is used for managing group conversations. Being rather abstract for children to master, teachers use physical objects to convey turn taking, like a pillow or a stick being moved around the group. However, such physical objects tend not to be effective with children. We introduce an interactive tangible object called TurnTalk which can help primary school classes master turn taking and positively affect their conversation behaviours.

Why is it important?

Positive behaviours in conversations can help children learn how to give turns to others in talking, talk effectively in groups, listen to others patiently and interrupt less.
