What is it about?
An examination of the challenges, strategies and relationships of doctoral researchers along their academic journey. We followed a group of six doctoral researchers and interviewed them about their experiences as academic and professional writers, and about the texts they had written along their writing trajectories. The data revealed a number of challenges the participants faced at specific stages of their writing trajectory, the strategies they deployed to deal with these challenges, the relationships they established along the way. The study offers possible pedagogic interventions for specific stages of the doctoral writing trajectory.

Why is it important?
Although studies on doctoral writing have increased exponentially in the past decade, research that follows a longitudinal approach is scant. This study follows the writing trajectories of a group of doctoral researchers and offers a new methodology to examine their challenges, strategies and relationships.
