What is it about?

Melanoma is considered one of forms of skin cancer, and early detection is crucial, since it can provide strong recommendations for specific and suitable treatment regimens. In this work, we propose a method to detect melanoma skin cancer from color images with automatic image processing techniques. Our method obtained melanoma skin cancer detection with high accuracy overall.

Why is it important?

Melanoma only accounts for about 1% of all skin cancers, but causes most of the skin cancer deaths. Melanoma is considered one of the fastest-growing forms of skin cancer, and hence the early detection is crucial. Our work using image processing and feature extraction from color images shows that we can detect melanoma with high accuracy.
