Why is it important?

Several novel adducts of imidazol-2-ylidenes (NHCs) with tetracyanoethylene are reported. The chemistry of NHCs with cyanating agents are also reported along with interesting imidazolium tetrazolides. The crystal of 1,3,4,5-tetramethylimidazolium tetrazolide orders water of crystallization in an "ice" matrix with a "melting point" of about 60 °C - Hot ice!
