What is it about?
Pre-eclampsia is a complication of pregnancy which causes raised blood pressure and leakage of protein in the urine in the mother. It can severely affect both the mother and her unborn child. Women who had pre-eclampsia during pregnancy have an increased risk of developing heart failure (the inability of the heart to pump enough blood flow to meet the body's needs) in the following years and decades of their life. We summarize why this happens, and how this can be targeted to improve women’s health.
