What is it about?
Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions, not only in the general population but also during pregnancy. Maternal obesity is associated with complications during the pregnancy, during labour and following childbirth. Obesity has a negative effect on heart function. The purpose of this study is to compare the heart function in women who are very obese (BMI >40kg/m2) to a control group with a BMI between 20-29.9kg/m2. Heart function has been assessed non-invasively using novel technology.
