What is it about?
Nuclear shape contributes to gene organization and expression in cells. This study is focused on the regulator of the actin nucleoskeleton, mDia2. This allows the investigation of nuclear actin without affecting cytoplasmic actin. Knockdown of mDia2 disrupts the actin‐lamin nucleoskeleton. This results in the release of mesenchymal stem cells from their stem state and leads to differentiation.

Why is it important?
This study demonstrates that the structural arrangement of the nucleo-skeleton is important in stem cell lineage commitment. Understanding MSC commitment is important for the identification of therapeutic targets to treat diverse disorders such as osteoporosis and obesity.
