What is it about?
Pillar[5]arenes are new hosts that are meant to complete the well-known macrocyclic hosts. The unique structure of these molecular capsules enables them to include in their cavity ionic compounds. Here we examined the interaction of these novel compounds with ionic liquids using experimental and theoretical techniques.
