Why is it important?

Our findings showed that healthcare utilization of health services for respiratory complications was substantial particularly in the emergency department (ED). We also found that health services such as the frequency of respiratory specialist visits, monitoring of respiratory function, and sleep-disordered breathing were variable but essentially reflected the professional recommendations. Our findings suggest that since children with NMD are frequent users of the ED, there is a need to improve the community and social support for these children.
