What is it about?

Different reactivities of copper nickel and palladium towards C-N bond formation of an 8-aminoquinoline derivativedepending on solvents is described. The changes in reactivity of the metal ions to the substrate are reflected in the fluorescence emission spectra during the course of recations, which can easily distinguish the metal ions and are highly selective in making the distinctions.

Why is it important?

This provides synthetic methods for nickel, copper and palladium catalysed reactions for cyclised product formation in distinguishable manners. This also provides a means to study reactions catalysed by different metal ions through fluorescence technique and establishes a way to distinguish specific metal ions selectively through changes in fluorescence emissions.

Perspectives

It will has direct implications to tune a metal catalysed reaction to get specific product/s and in signal transductions.
