What is it about?
Two steps are involved in fabricating end-products using a polymer. One is melting, and the other is cooling during which a crystalline polymer crystallizes. Therefore, it is important to gain insight about melting and crystallization. This is why, we modeled these phenomena of a polyethylene-methyl methacrylate copolymer which is academically and industrially worthwhile. The model predictions provided highly significant results that enhance our understanding of this subject.

Why is it important?
This work introduces a new crystallization model which overcomes the limitations of the previous models. Literature data support this new model. Most importantly, the concept of variable crystallization kinetic energy and change in the associated mechanism have been refuted. This solves a long pending issue. Also, a procedure for calculating lamellar thickness distribution has been presented. The present approach can be applied to crystalline homopolymers and copolymers, and their blends.
