What is it about?
A novel antenna candidate for intelligent wearable systems at 30 GHz is presented in this letter. It consists of a compact axial-mode helical antenna with a ground plane mounted on a plastic ring. This choice allows to achieve a wide bandwidth and circular polarization in a compact package. A prototype is manufactured, and the different classical key antenna metrics are investigated: return loss, realized gain, axial ratio and radiation pattern. The bandwidth and radiation characteristics obtained make the wearable ring antenna suitable to be used for MM-wave applications within the frequency band from 25 to 33 GHz.
