What is it about?

Intraoperative neuromonitoring of the TA muscles alone may miss a partial RLN injury in some cases.

Why is it important?

This study suggests preferential damage to PCA-nerve fibers in RLN lesions, particularly in iatrogenic lesions. Traction on the nerve is to be understood as the predominant mechanism of injury.

Perspectives

Intraoperative neuromonitoring should include the evoked PCA-EMG in future.
