This papers investigates the travel behaviors of young Chinese who have located overseas to acquire educational qualifications. Such ‘study tourists’ travel independently around their place of study, often playing the role of host to visiting friends and relatives. This differs from the pattern of mainstream China outbound leisure travel which is typically package tour based.
