Why is it important?

This policy was categorised into three chapters: preliminary discussion, organisational and managerial aspects and occupational health and safety. The policy was implemented in several phases. During the first phase, medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, obstetrics and paediatric services were targeted, while the second phase included the surgical, post-operative and haematology wards, the high care unit and emergency and laboratory departments. The third phase involved the pharmacy, out-patient department and hospital administration, while the fourth phase eventually included the whole hospital.

Perspectives

The successful implementation of a waste management system according to the established international guidelines has been a great challenge since the establishment of the hospital.
