What is it about?

This paper investigates seasonal and annual trends of Near-Surface Temperature (NST) during the last century (1901 – 2018) over Ghana. The ability of 24 global climate models (GCMs) from the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) to simulate abrupt mean temperature changes in Ghana from 1980 - 2014 was assessed.

Why is it important?

Research findings by WMO, indicate that the rising tendency of global temperature has significant hydrological, ecological, and socioeconomic consequences at regional and local levels. Temperature variability is a critical topic in scientific research, considering its influence on other climatic variables, it stands as the major determinant of global warming. This paper investigates seasonal and annual of Near-Surface Temperature (NST) trends of records during the last century (1901 – 2018) over Ghana. This is an important material because it also evaluates the performance of the GCMs at the regional and local levels.

Perspectives

Temperature variability is a critical topic in scientific research, considering its influence on other climatic variables, it stands as the major determinant of global warming. The discourse about global warming and climate change is of essence to individual households, regions, and countries across the globe. This paper serves as a good insight for local climate change studies.
