What is it about?

This work contribute to understand the changes induced by Saharan and Sahelian mineral dust on wind, rainfall and temperature in West Africa during the summer monsoon period. It is highlighting how dust release during the monsoon period impact the regional climate by inducing changes in monsoon flow over land.

Why is it important?

The West African monsoon is the major contributor of rainfall over Sahel region (90%) and greatly impact water resources. Understand the mineral dust forcing on West African monsoon system will contribute to better understanding to water resource availability variability for West African population.

Perspectives

I hope this publication will be useful for climate and meteorology scientists, hydrology, agricultural and water resources managing community, NGOs and policy makers dealing with West Africa in understand the monsoon modification due to mineral dust forcing.
