What is it about?

Unlike autotrophic denitrifiers used in nitrogenous waste treatment till now, heterotrophs can easily be employed for simultaneously do nitrification and denitrification. The ability of the heterotrophs is astounding with more than 90% of the nitrogenous waste removed in a short span of time.

Why is it important?

Many isolates reported in this article are described for unusual role in nitrogen cycle for the first time (Lysinibacillus sp., Brevundimonas sp.). Removal of more than 90% nitrogenous waste is a big deal. There is a controversy about the ability of Alcaligenes species in its nitrite utilization capabilities. This article adds data to this ongoing debate among the researcher community.
