What is it about?
We have shown that pure antibodies isolated from the serum of patients with schizophrenia can not only bind the myelin basic protein, but also destroy this antigen.

Why is it important?
Anomalies of myelination and hypomyelination can be observed in schizophrenia, which leads to a violation of the nerve impulse. Discovered antibodies with proteolytic activity can play an important role in this process. These data indicate a new pathological mechanism in schizophrenia. We suggest that anti-inflammatory therapy for schizophrenia may have a beneficial effect.
