What is it about?
Tight junctions adjusts their paracellular permeability and selectivity to conditions imposed by the environment. We studied how a substance from the environment, the epidermal growth factor, activates the transcription factor STAT3 to change the molecular composition of tight junctions and make them tighter.

Why is it important?
We have discovered a new signaling pathway for the regulation of tight junctions involving the transcription factor STAT3.
