Why is it important?
Knowledge is dispersed in water research literature, providing evidence for or against a particular hypothesis. How can we know to which side of the "pendulum" existing lines of evidence swing? We argue that quantitative synthesis (or meta-analysis) provides a way to measure the combined effects (weights or importance) of existing knowledge about a particular topic in hydrologic sciences.
