What is it about?

Delirium presents with various psychomotor subtypes. Hypoactive and mixed delirium are associated with increased risk of dying at a 6-mo follow-up in older patients with hip fracture. Delirium duration influences this association. Hyperactive delirium does not seem to affect patient's survival.

Why is it important?

Not all patients with delirium should be regarded at the same manner. Hypoactive and mixed delirium should be regarded as life-life-threatining conditions in older patients with hip fracture

Perspectives

I hope this article makes physicians more aware of the risk of under-detecting and underestimating non agitated delirium
