Why is it important?
Interest in the sulfonyl fluoride functional group is currently exploding - a number of papers appeared just during the publication process of this review. Much of this interest is due to the click-reagent potential of these reagents as highlighted by the Sharpless research group, and their potential as covalent enzyme inhibitors as exemplified by the groups of Jones and Liskamp.
