What is it about?
Porphyrins are often used in photodynamic cancer therapy. However, the synthesis of new drug candidates is often laborious. Here we describe a simple method how a known lead compound (mTHPP) can quickly be converted into new molecules using simple chemistry. The new protocols can also be used to prepare porphyrins with different residues for other applications which require unsymmetrical systems.
