What is it about?
A series of Cr(III) complexes with very unusual pentagonal bipyramid coordination spheres, which are characterized by either cyanide or thiocyanate ligands in apical positions, have been devised as metallo-ligands (linkers) for 1-D assemblages able to improve the magnetic shielding of such polynuclear compounds. Three chain polymers have been constructed and their magnetic behaviors demonstrate very weak inter-chain interactions.

Why is it important?
Intermolecular interactions are often a real problem in low-dimensional magnetic species because they compromise the specific behavior that was targeted. We show that these metallo-ligands can help avoiding this drawback.
