What is it about?
This story is a deeply personal one. It's a story I likely share with countless other patients and caregivers, although this version is uniquely mine. Patients and their caregivers are usually quite willing to share their version of this story with each other, but with this paper, I offer my story to oncologists with the hope of showing the supreme importance of patient-centered care.

Perspectives
This paper chronicles my experience when my mother and father were diagnosed simultaneously with breast cancer and melanoma. The perspective-altering encounters from inside the healthcare system revealed critical lessons regarding the importance of patient-centered care as key to empowering patients and creating a sense of peace for survivors.
